(Aug. 20, 2013) - FC Kansas City midfielder Erika Tymrak was voted the National Women’s Soccer League Rookie of the Year for the 2013 NWSL season, the league announced Tuesday.
Western New York Flash goalkeeper Adrianna Franch was second in the voting, while Boston Breakers forward Sydney Leroux finished third.
Tymrak, 22, started 16 games during the season and finished with six goals and four assists in 21 appearances for FC Kansas City.
The Bradenton, Fla. native scored three goals and added an assist in six games as she helped the Blues to a 3-0-3 record during July on her way to being named the NWSL Player of the Month.
She was also voted NWSL Player of the Week for Week 15 (ending July 21) after registering a goal and an assist in in a 2-0 victory over Seattle Reign FC on July 20.
The University of Florida product had 26 shots (14 on goal) during the year and was instrumental in FCKC’s league-record 10-game unbeaten run June 23 - Aug. 4.
FC Kansas City will face Portland Thorns FC in the semifinals of the 2013 NWSL Playoffs live on FOX Sports 2 on Saturday, August 24 at 2 p.m. ET at Verizon Wireless Field in Overland Park, Kan.
The NWSL awards are voted on by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis, club officials and NWSL players.
