(Feb. 13, 2014) – Seattle Reign FC today announced that the club has signed goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer for the 2014 NWSL season, with a club option for the 2015 season.
Reign FC originally acquired Kopmeyer in the fourth round (31st overall pick) of the 2013 NWSL College Draft. Kopmeyer served as Seattle’s backup goalkeeper for the early part of last season while Hope Solo was recovering from a wrist injury, behind starting keeper Michelle Betos.
Kopmeyer started one game for Reign FC on May 19, against Sky Blue FC. Seattle was forced to release the keeper in June of 2013 due to roster constraints.
“We believe Haley has huge potential to be a mainstay professional keeper,” general manager and head coach Laura Harvey said. “Training daily with goalkeeper coach Ben Dragavon and learning from someone of Hope Solo’s caliber will allow her to reach her full potential.”
"I couldn't be happier. Reign FC is a world-class organization and I have the opportunity to work with the best every single day,” Reign FC goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer said. “I have been working hard this off-season to compete at the highest level and cannot wait to get started."
