Washington Spirit rookie forward Arielle Ship has torn the ACL in her right knee and is out for the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday. She was injured after a collision in the second half of Saturday’s game vs. the Chicago Red Stars.
Ship had appeared in 14 games this season. She won the Week 15 Player of the Week after recording a goal and two assists in a win over Sky Blue FC on August 4.
“Injuries are always awful, especially ones that are generated by contact,” Spirit head coach and general manager Jim Gabarra in the team’s official release. “I felt like that was Ari’s best game of the season so far, so it’s really disappointing and sad that she’ll miss the rest of the season. We’ll provide her with the support and quality medical resources to get her back as strong as ever.”
