Following her performance in Week 6 vs. the North Carolina Courage, Chicago Red Stars forward Christen Press has been named Week 6 NWSL Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association.
Press notched a goal and an assist in Chicago’s 3-1 win over North Carolina in Week 6. After being fouled in the box, Press converted the penalty kick in the 30th minute for her second goal of the year. She then assisted on Sofia Huerta’s curling strike in the 37th minute (the Week 6 Goal of the Week). According to Opta, she completed 86.2 of her passes, while recording three shots on goal and creating two chances. She also made several dazzling dribbles in the match.
The Red Stars captain has two goals and an assist through the first six games of the season. She’s played all 540 minutes and leads the league with 14 shots on goal (23 total shots). Press’ assist vs. the Courage was the third of her NWSL career and first since August 29, 2015 vs. the Western New York Flash.
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.
