Christen Press has signed with Göteborg FC in Sweden, the team and Press announced Monday.

The Houston Dash acquired the rights to Press from the Red Stars in a January three-team trade, but she did not report to preseason camp for Houston. The Dash still hold her rights and she does not count against the club’s active roster.

Göteborg FC said her contract is for the summer, and Press said she was looking forward to a successful three months with the team.

“While we are disappointed in her decision and would have enjoyed her talents here, we are comfortable with the outcome given the positive things happening around the club. We will retain Christen’s player rights in the event that she decides to return to the NWSL in the future,” the Dash said in a statement.

“For reasons that are clear to me and for the betterment of my career I have chosen to play overseas this season. I respect and appreciate the opportunity that Houston afforded me,” Press wrote in a statement posted to Twitter. “Thank you to everyone supporting me through these tough decisions I’ve had to make for my career.”

Press previously played for Göteborg FC in 2012, her second season of professional soccer. She joined the NWSL in 2014 and spent the last three and a half years playing for the Chicago Red Stars. She is tied for second all-time with 35 regular season goals.
