Following her performance in Washington’s thrilling 4-3 over Sky Blue FC on Saturday, Spirit forward Francisca Ordega was voted Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 4 of the 2017 NWSL season.

Ordega scored her first two goals of the 2017 season in the game and added an assist. It was also her shot that forced an own goal by Sky Blue FC defender Erin Simon, meaning Ordega contributed on all four goals in the Spirit’s win of the season.

Ordega gave Washington an early 1-0 lead with a 6th minute goal off an assist by Line Sigvardsen Jensen. In the 26th minute, her shot towards goal was hit into the net by Simon to give the Spirit a 2-1 lead. Nine minutes later, Ordega’s assist on Havana Solaun‘s goal made it 3-1. In the 56th minute, Ordega scored the eventual game-winner, running down a long ball and blocking Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan‘s attempted clearance before putting it in the back of the net.

It’s Ordega’s first NWSL Player of the Week honor and she is the 10th Spirit player to ever win. The Nigeria international is the first-African born player to be named Player of the Week.

The four goal output versus Sky Blue FC was Washington’s highest scoring performance since a 4-2 over Seattle Reign FC in 2013 and tied the club’s single-game scoring record.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.
