Seattle Reign FC have added goalkeeper Lydia Williams to their roster after a pair of trades with the Houston Dash and the Boston Breakers.
In the first transaction, the Reign traded a conditional draft pick and the rights to midfielder Lindsay Elston to Boston for a second round pick in the 2018 College Draft. Elston has elected to not finish the rest of the 2017 regular season.
Reign head coach and general manager Laura Harvey then used that second round draft pick in the trade with the Dash. That pick is now Houston’s, as they sent goalkeeper Lydia Williams to Seattle.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to bring in another goalkeeper,” Harvey said in the team’s official release. “Lydia has international experience and suits the way we like to play. I feel she can have an impact within the group both short term and long term.”
This seasons, Williams started eight matches for the Dash, and earned two clean sheets. She also earned a clean sheet for the Australian national team during the Tournament of Nations in the Matildas’ first ever win over the U.S. women’s national team.
