Algarve Cup Day 1 Results 

 

Australia 4 Norway 3

Chicago Red Stars forward Sam Kerr scored in her seventh consecutive game for Australia, a new team record, as the Matildas opened up their Algarve Cup campaign with a 4-3 win. Australia led 3-1 before Norway came back to tie it 3-3 in the 61st minute. Australia’s Larissa Crummer won the game in the 95th minute. Utah Royals FC forward Elise Thorsnes scored twice for Norway. Highlights

 

Canada 3 Sweden 1

Sky Blue FC forward Janine Beckie scored, but it wasn’t enough as Canada fell 3-1 to Sweden in their Algarve Cup opener. Mimmi Larsson scored for Sweden in the 43rd minute before Beckie tied it in the 46th. Sweden answered quickly with a goal in the 51st minute from Fridolina Rolfö. Stina Blackstenius put the game out of reach with a goal in the 87th minute. Utah Royals FC midfielder Diana Matheson returned to the field for Canada for the first time since tearing her ACL one year ago. Match report

 

Denmark 0 Iceland 0

 

Utah Royals FC midfielder Gunnhildur Yrsa Jónsdóttir started for Iceland in a 0-0 draw with Denmark.

 

 

Netherlands 6 Japan 2

Lieke Martens scored twice as the Netherlands beat Japan 6-2. Shanice van de Sanden also scored for the Netherlands in the game.

 

Also in the tournament, Portugal beat China 2-1 and the Republic of Korea topped Russia 3-1.

 


Cyprus Cup Day 1 Results 

 

Wales 1 Finland 0

 

Seattle Reign FC midfielder Jess Fishlock and Wales won their opening game at the Cyprus Cup, 1-0 over Finland.

 

 

Elsewhere in the tournament: Italy beat Switzerland 3-0; Spain topped Austria 2-0; the Czech Republic beat Belgium 2-1; Korea DPR beat Hungary 2-0; Slovakia tied South Africa 0-0.
