Portland Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan has been named the Player of the Week for Week 8 by the NWSL Media Association following her performance on Saturday vs. Sky Blue FC.
Horan scored two first half goals to lead the Thorns to a 2-0 win on the road in New Jersey. In Week 8. The Thorns have not lost since April 22, an unbeaten streak of six games.
Her 20th minute score was named Week 8 NWSL Goal of the Week. After a foul near midfield, forward Nadia Nadim sent a long free kick into the box that Horan dove for and headed to the far post, past Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan.
Horan scored her second goal of the game to double the score in the 42nd minute, hammering home a right-footed shot off a cross from defender Meghan Klingenberg.
The tallies were Horan’s first two of the goals of the season, giving her seven career NWSL goals. Her first goal was the fourth game-winning goal she has scored in her career, as well as the fourth with her head.
Horan finished Saturday’s game with four total shots, two on goal. She also took 53 total touches and had a 71.8 passing accuracy in the match, according to opta.
She is the first member of the Portland Thorns to win Player of the Week this season. It’s the 12th time a Portland player has ever won Player of the Week.
