North Carolina Courage forward Makenzy Doniak tore her ACL on the first day of preseason, she said in a statement posted to social media on Friday.
“With the support from my coaches, teammates, family and friends I will be back stronger and better,” she wrote. “This team is going to have an exciting 2018 season, and I am honored to be [part] of it no matter what role I play.”
Doniak was drafted by the Western New York Flash in 2016. Last season with the Courage she recorded three assists in 21 appearances. The NWSL preseason began on Monday, February 19.
