Megan Rapinoe has been voted Player of the Week for Week 7 of the 2018 season by the NWSL Media Association. This is the second time this year the Seattle Reign FC forward has earned the honor. She was previously named Player of the Week for the first week of the NWSL season.
Rapinoe picks up the Week 7 nod following a two-goal performance in the Reign’s 4-2 victory over Sky Blue FC on Saturday, May 12. This is the sixth time in her career she has been named Player of the Week.
Rapinoe’s first goal on Saturday came in the 38th minute following a poor Sky Blue clearance. Rapinoe settled the ball, took a couple touches, and then chipped it in for a technical finish in the far right corner. Her second goal of the night came in the second half. Reign midfielder Nahomi Kawasumi played Rapinoe a through ball down the left flank and Rapinoe cut the ball inside to finish it far post for the 3-0 lead in the 60th minute. Rapinoe finished the match with a team-high seven shots and three on goal. This was Rapinoe’s first game back after missing the Reign’s last three matches with a hamstring injury.
She currently sits in second-place in the league with goals (4) and has 18 shots with 10 on goal this season.
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.
