The Portland Thorns remained perfect in home openers in National Women’s Soccer League, improving to 5-0-0 with a 2-0 win at Providence Park over the Orlando Pride thanks to goals from Nadia Nadim and Christine Sinclair.

Nadim’s goal came on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute after Pride defender Alanna Kennedy was called for a handball in the box. Nadim converted the penalty, sending it to Ashlyn Harris‘ right, when the 2016 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year dove left, to give the Thorns the early lead.

Sinclair’s goal came in the 67th minute off an assist from Allie Long.

The win for the Thorns came in front of 16,145 fans. Before the game, Sinclair accepted the 2016 NWSL Shield from NWSL Managing Director of Operations Amanda Duffy. The Rose City Riveters paid tribute to the Shield as well.
