Seattle Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe has earned the first NWSL Player of the Month honors for 2018, as voted on by the NWSL Media Association.
While Seattle Reign FC only played one game in March, Rapinoe didn’t waste any time. Rapinoe scored a goal and added an assist in the Reign’s 2-1 home win over the Washington Spirit. Her performance in Week 1 also earned her Player of the Week honors.
Rapinoe is no stranger to NWSL awards, she has won Player of the Week on five different occasions, and this will be her second time named Player of the Month. She picked up July’s Player of the Month in 2017 after scoring five goals in four games to lead the Reign to a 2-1-1 record.
Even though Seattle had a bye in Week 2, the Reign FC still hold the league’s top rank in shots on goal (13) and Rapinoe sits comfortably in player ranks as No. 4 in both goals (1) and assists (1). If Rapinoe’s performance in opening weekend was any indication of what this year holds, expect goals. Although other players in the league are two games in, Rapinoe is still first in the league with shots on goal (6) and shots taken (11).
In 2017, Rapinoe scored 12 goals for the Reign.
After the FIFA break, Rapinoe and the Reign will play on the road against Sky Blue FC (0-1-0) on Sunday, April 15 at 5 p.m. ET (go90).
The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.
