Fifty-five players have been named to the shortlist for the FIFPro Women’s World XI, announced on Friday. The final World XI will be announced on Thursday, March 8.
FIFPro said that more than four thousand players voted for the World XI, from 45 different countries.
The list features six NWSL players: Alanna Kennedy (Orlando Pride), Carli Lloyd (Sky Blue FC), Marta (Orlando Pride), Sam Kerr (Chicago Red Stars), Alex Morgan (Orlando Pride) and Jodie Taylor (Seattle Reign FC).
Former Portland Thorns FC midfielder Amandine Henry and forward Nadia Nadim, who won the title last year with Portland, are also on the list.
Netherlands and FC Barcelona forward Lieke Martens, named The Best FIFA Women’s Player in 2017, leads a group of six players from the reigning European champions on the list. Martens recently scored a brace in the Algarve Cup vs. Japan.
She is joined on the list by her fellow The Best finalists: Lloyd and Venezuela/Florida State forward Deyna Castellanos. Florida State beat the Orlando Pride in a preseason game earlier this week, thanks to a late, brilliant strike from Castellanos.
