The Houston Dash secured three points to keep their playoff hopes alive defeating the Washington Spirit 4-0 on Saturday night at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Kealia Ohai,  Sofia Huerta (twice) and Kyah Simon scored for the Dash to improve them to 8-8-5 overall with 29 points. The Dash move up to sixth place in the standings with the win, passing Utah Royals FC with 28 points. This victory for the Dash marks as a franchise record for wins (8).

The Spirit traveled to Houston after a bye in Week 20 action – this is their eighth-straight loss and have recorded just one goal in their last ten games. The Spirit are out of playoff contention, but reunited Rose Lavelle, Mallory Pugh and Andi Sullivan to the starting lineup for just the second time this season.

The Dash are now 3-0-0 against the Spirit this season.

Dash forward Kealia Ohai scored her fifth goal of the season just before the half. The Spirit had the better of the possession in the first 45 minutes of play, but Dash midfielder Linda Motlhalo played Rachel Daly into space down the left flank and Daly got a back pass off to Ohai. Ohai finished it one-time in the near post past Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe for the 1-0 lead.

Midfielder Sofia Huerta gave the Dash a 2-0 lead to kick off the second half. Huerta first played Taylor Comeau down the right flank and then Comeau slotted the ball back to the foot of Huerta, where she was able to finish far post for her sixth goal of the season.

Huerta then finished her second of the night in the 75th minute. Daly was composed in the box waiting for the Spirit defense to commit, then played the ball across the box into Huerta. Huerta finished off her seventh goal of the season. Daly finished the match with two assists on the night and had a game-high six shots and six key passes. Huerta now has four goals with the Dash and ended the night with five shots, three key passes and a team-high 60 touches.

The Dash couldn’t keep their foot off the gas pedal and put another one in the back of the net in the 84th minute thanks to Kyah Simon. Veronica Latsko served the ball in, Daly dummied it and Simon finished it far post to seal the game at 4-0.

Bledsoe made six saves in the loss, and Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell earned her third shutout of the year and made three saves.

The Spirit’s best chance of the night followed Huerta’s first goal. Andi Sullivan fired a shot from outside the 18, but her rocket hit the cross bar. Sullivan had a team-high four shots and one key pass.

The Dash will next face Seattle Reign FC on Tuesday and the Spirit will host Utah Royals FC on Wednesday for Week 22 action.
