Brazilian midfielder Thaisa has signed with Sky Blue FC, the club announced Wednesday. The move is pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
Thaisa’s international career began in 2013, and she has four goals in 49 appearances. She started every game at the 2016 Olympics, when Brazil finished fourth in front of their home fans. She also featured at the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
“Thaisa is a distinguished international with outstanding ability on both sides of the ball,” Sky Blue FC coach Denise Reddy said in the team’s official announcement. “Her experience and expertise as a midfield motor will be a huge addition to our roster.”
“Needless to say, we are incredibly excited to have Thaisa coming to New Jersey,” Sky Blue FC president and general manager Tony Novo said in the news release. “She is an internationally accomplished player who will provide a huge boost as our roster continues to take shape for the 2018 season. Her leadership and style of play will be a tremendous addition to our team.”
On the club side, Thaisa has played in Brazil, Sweden and — most recently — Iceland with the club Grindavík. She played college in the United States (2007-2010) — first at Feather River College and then at Florida International University.
