Utah Royals FC have signed Norwegian forward Elise Thorsnes and former FC Kansas City defender Brittany (Taylor) Kolmel, the club announced Wednesday.
“[Thorsnes] is a player that has a proven record at the international level, she can play in multiple positions on the pitch and is comfortable on both sides,” Utah head coach Laura Harvey said in a statement from the club. “She has just come off the back end of her professional Australian season, where she showed she has a good eye for goal. Bringing any international player into the NWSL is always a fantastic thing for the league, and I think Elise’s style of play and her competitive attitude is something that allows her transition into our setup to be an exciting one.”
Thorsnes most recently played in the Australian W-League with Canberra United, scoring six goals in nine games. She also had been on the roster for Avaldsnes IL in Norway since 2015 and was the Toppserien’s leading scorer three times (2006, 2011 and 2013). On the international level, Thorsnes has more than 100 caps with Norway’s senior team since her debut in 2006.
Kolmel is entering her sixth season in the NWSL. She spent the past two seasons with FC Kansas City after her time with the Western New York Flash (2013-2015).
Utah Royals FC said the moves completed their preseason signings. The NWSL preseason begins February 19 and the season kicks off on March 24.
