On Wednesday, the Washington Spirit announced they claimed midfielder Morgan Proffitt off waivers. Proffitt was waived by the Chicago Red Stars earlier this week following the trade between Chicago and Washington for midfielder Kristie Mewis.

Proffitt has played with the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team, as was drafted in the 2017 NWSL College Draft with the No. 12 overall pick by the Chicago Red Stars.

Proffitt had seven appearances with the Red Stars, including one start, for 111 minutes played so far in her rookie season.

After this week’s trade and roster moves, the two teams will face off this weekend. The Spirit host the Red Stars on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
