Washington Spirit forward Arielle Ship has been named the Player of the Week for Week 15 by the NWSL Media Association.
The rookie tallied a goal and two assists in Washington’s 4-1 win over Sky Blue FC on Saturday. The points were the first of her NWSL career.
Ship’s first professional goal evened the score in the 51st minute after the Spirit fell behind 1-0 in the second minute. She picked up a pass from Tori Huster at midfield, took a nice touch around Sky Blue FC defender Christie Pearce and dribbled down the right wing. Once in the penalty area, she launched a right-footed rocket shot to the far post that soared into the upper corner of the goal.
Ship was originally drafted by Seattle Reign FC in the 2017 NWSL College Draft but later traded to the Spirit. She is the first player from that draft class to win Player of the Week.
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.
