(April 5, 2017) – Six countries with internationals in the NWSL will be playing at the 2017 UEFA Women’s Championship starting in mid-July and four of those countries have called up players from the league for April friendlies as they prepare for the tournament this summer.

In addition to the internationals from the four countries set to feature at the Euros – Denmark, France, Iceland and Norway – NWSL players have also been named to the rosters of Costa Rica, Japan, Ireland and Wales.

Nine players from the league were tapped by their national teams – with six NWSL clubs represented on the rosters of these countries, see below for a team-by-team breakdown of the internationals set to feature for their national teams.

Boston Breakers

Forward Emilie Haavi was named to the Norway squad ahead of their April 10 match against Switzerland, but has since pulled out due to a broken jaw suffered last week with the Breakers. The 24-year-old international has 15 goals during 59 caps for Norway and was one of the early acquisitions during the offseason for the Breakers.

Houston Dash

Midfielder Denise O’Sullivan has been included in the Republic of Ireland squad prior to their April 10 match against Slovakia. The Dash player also featured for her country last month at the Cyprus Cup as Ireland claimed fourth place at the tournament behind victories over the Czech Republic and Wales.

Portland Thorns

Forward Nadia Nadim was recently named the Female Player of the Year for the Denmark national team and she has been included in her national team’s roster for their April 11 match against Finland. Nadim has scored 19 goals in 65 appearances for Denmark with the most recent tally coming last September against Sweden.

Midfielders Amandine Henry and Dagný Brynjarsdóttir have also been called into their respective national sides – with Henry named to the France squad for their April 7 game against Netherlands and Brynjarsdottir and included in the Iceland roster prior to their April 6 match against Slovakia.

Seattle Reign

Midfielder Jess Fishlock is set to earn her 100th cap for Wales as she prepares for a pair of friendlies April 5 and April 7 against Northern Ireland. The three-time NWSL Best XI member helped will reach triple digits in international appearances with her next cap.

Midfielder Rumi Utsugi was named to the Japan roster for the 2017 Kirin Challenge Cup against Costa Rica on April 9 in a match to raise money to support recovery and relief efforts to help those affected by Kumamato Earthquake in 2016.

Sky Blue FC

Forward Raquel Rodriguez is set to report for the Costa Rica Women’s National Team as they travel to Japan to play their hosts on April 9. She scored the game-winning goal for Sky Blue in a 1-0 preseason victory over North Carolina on April 1. No joke.

Washington Spirit

Defender Line Jensen has been named to the Denmark roster for their April 11 friendly against Finland. Jensen most recently featured for her country last month as they claimed third-place at the 2017 Algarve Cup on penalties following a 1-1 draw with Australia.
