Marta, Spencer score as Orlando beats Boston 2-0
The Pride are now 2-3-3

The Pride earned their second win of the season thanks to goals from Marta and Jasmyne Spencer as Orlando beat the Boston Breakers 2-0 in front of a crowd of 5,185 on a rainy night at Orlando City Stadium.

In the 8th minute, Spencer intercepted a pass on Orlando’s defensive side of the field and raced up field with Marta by her side. Spencer sent a through pass to Marta and the Orlando forward was able to beat the Breakers defense to get to the ball. Breakers goalkeeper Abby Smith fouled Marta in the box after Marta sent her first touch around Smith.

Marta stepped up and finished the penalty for her third goal of the season. Marta’s penalty was the first ever penalty kick attempt (and conversion) for the Orlando Pride.

Orlando’s second goal came just a few minutes later as Spencer scored in the 13th minute. Midfielder Camila threaded a pass through several Breakers defenders from the left wing that Spencer was able to tap in to make it 2-0.

Pride goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe, making her second start in place of the injured Ashlyn Harris (right quadriceps strain) made three saves to earn the shutout, Orlando’s first of the season.

The Pride improved to to 2-3-3 with 9 points and into seventh place in the NWSL. Boston fell to 2-4-2 with 8 points and into 8th place.
