On Wednesday, Roberto Medina Arellano announced the Mexican women’s national team roster that will face the United States for a pair of friendlies on Thursday, April 5 in Jacksonville, Florida (7 p.m. ET, FS1 and UDN), and Sunday, April 8 in Houston, Texas (1:30 p.m. ET, FOX).
The United States and Mexico have a rich history of meetings, with the most recent being at the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2016 where the USWNT won 1-0. Arellano’s squad features Sky Blue FC forward Katie Johnson and Houston Dash goalkeeper Bianca Henninger. Kiana Palacios, a Sky Blue FC 2018 NWSL College Draft pick out of UC Irvine, is also on the roster.
Johnson was selected by Seattle Reign FC at the 2017 NWSL College Draft and had a standout rookie campaign on offense scoring four goals and adding two assists. Johnson was acquired by Sky Blue FC in the offseason and will be with the team in their season opener on Saturday against the North Carolina Courage. Henninger is an NWSL veteran, joining the league in its inaugural season in 2013. Henninger has been with the Dash since 2014 and has played in 17 games.
