Morgan is still out with a hamstring injury and is expect to miss the next two to three weeks.
“We’re sad to see Christina leave the Pride. She has been a dedicated professional and a wonderful contributor to our team, the Club and the community,” Pride coach Tom Sermanni said in a statement released by the team. “Knowing her playing time would likely have been limited with Alex’s return, we believed it would be in her best interest to provide her the opportunity to explore other options for her career. We wish Christina every success and look forward to seeing her continuing to grow both on and off the field.”
Burkenroad, drafted by the Pride in the 2016 NWSL College Draft, was in her second season with Orlando and had appeared in eight games.
Also on Wednesday, the North Carolina Courage waived midfielder Rosana. The Brazilian midfielder was in her first season in the NWSL and had appeared in four games.
Courage coach Paul Riley said in a statement released by the team that Rosana was given an opportunity to play elsewhere.
“Rose has a better opportunity to further her career and I want to personally thank her for her commitment to the club while she was in North Carolina,” he said. “She has worked hard on her personal fitness, and she now wants the opportunity to play full-time. We cannot offer that opportunity, but we sincerely wish her all the luck in her future endeavors.”
