CHICAGO (May 5, 2018) – The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and Portland Thorns FC announced today that Providence Park will host the 2018 NWSL Championship on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 4:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. PT on Lifetime.

“It is tribute to the amazing atmosphere created by the Portland Thorns FC and their supporters at Providence Park that the 2018 NWSL Championship will be back in the Rose City,” said NWSL Managing Director Amanda Duffy. “Providence Park is one of the most historic venues in the country and Portland is a city that boasts one of the most vibrant soccer scenes in America, making it a wonderful place to celebrate the culmination of the 2018 season.”

Providence Park has hosted three NWSL playoff games, including the 2015 championship match, which featured the largest crowd for an NWSL Championship match in league history (13,264). Thorns FC have led the NWSL in attendance in each of the league’s first five seasons.

 Tickets go on sale to the public on Thursday, June 7, at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT. Fans will be able to purchase tickets by calling (888) 736-6849 or online at In addition, fans are also able to purchase tickets at the Providence Park box office. The Providence Park box office is open Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. PT and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT. Portland Thorns FC Annual Members will have access to an exclusive presale beginning Tuesday, June 5, with details to be emailed to annual members later this month. Tickets will be held for fans of both participating teams and will be made available in a special sales window once the teams are set.

Home to Thorns FC, the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer and T2 of the United Soccer League, Providence Park seats 21,144 with an extensive stadium-expansion project underway to add approximately 4,000 seats for 2019. Thorns FC have led the NWSL in attendance in each of the league’s first five seasons, averaging 17,653 fans during the 2017 campaign. Originally constructed in 1926, the stadium has held a variety of premier sporting events over the decades, including the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2014 MLS All-Star Game and the 2015 NWSL Championship.

At the conclusion of the NWSL season, the top four teams in the standings qualify for the playoffs with the higher-seeded teams hosting the semifinal matches on the weekend of Sept. 14-16. The 2018 NWSL Championship marks the fourth consecutive year the title match is set to be contested at a predetermined site.
