In 2026, the NWSL officially became a 16-team league with the arrival of Boston Legacy FC and Denver Summit FC – and both teams are stacked with international talent. They’re not the only ones.
This February-March window, 112 NWSL players from all 16 teams have been called up to represent their countries, and with major international competitions and qualifiers coming up on almost every continent, it’s set to be one of the busiest windows of the year.
For national teams, it’s an important stretch to determine who deserves a roster spot and who is ready to face the challenges of the biggest stage. For fans, it’s an opportunity to see their favorite NWSL players wearing their national colors and teaming up Avengers-style.

International Storylines to Watch
She Really is Believin’
Every NWSL club will be represented at this year’s SheBelieves Cup, with 37 league players set to compete in the annual tournament hosted by U.S. Soccer. The round-robin format will see the USWNT take on Colombia, Canada, and Argentina, with the title awarded to the team that finishes atop the standings on points.
‘O Canada
With 13 NWSL players, Canada will field the largest contingent of league players outside of the USWNT. Kailen Sheridan (NC), Janine Sonis (DEN), Jessie Fleming (POR), and Cloé Lacasse (UTA), just to name a few, will be wearing their country’s red and white, alongside new NWSL addition Emma Regan (DEN).
Washington Spirit Represented Well
The Spirit leads all clubs with 14 call ups to the U.S., Colombia, England, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Scotland, and Côte d’Ivoire.
World Cup Qualifiers
Players from England, Germany, France, Denmark, Slovenia, Italy, Wales, Austria, Finland, Norway, Portugal, and Spain are competing in UEFA Women’s World Cup qualifier matches.
Africa Prepares for WAFCON
The national teams of Africa will be announcing their 2026 WAFCON (March 17 – April 3) rosters shortly, with countries like Zambia, Mali, Malawi, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire likely to name NWSL players.
