Saturday, March 16 Matchup: Kansas City Current vs. Portland Thorns FC Where to watch: ABC, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes History will be made on March 16th in Kansas City as the Current host Portland in the season opener in CPKC Stadium, the first stadium in the world to be built for a professional women’s soccer team. With new international talent like Temwa Chaminga, captain of the Malawi National Team, Bia Zaneratto of Brazil, and league veteran Nichelle Prince of Canada, they want to make CPKC Stadium the home of champions. Rookie forward Reilyn Turner has been putting her own unique spin on possessions this preseason and it’s going to be fun to watch. Louisville will also benefit from the return of Ary Borges, who played for Brazil in the Concacaf W Gold Cup final. With a year of experience with the club, the young Brazilian already knows many of her teammates. Get ready to watch Sanchez dazzle on the pitch alongside Haley Hopkins, Tyler Lussi and Olivia Wingate. The Courage isn’t just strong in the forward position group, their defenders have been locking down players and blocking goals non-stop. The backline is anchored by Kaleigh Kurtz, Ryan Williams and Melia Berkley. To make the back line even stronger, the Courage brought in German defender Felicitas ‘Feli’ Rauch. The club has signed her to a new two-year, guaranteed contract through the 2025 NWSL season. The addition of top stars Ally Sentnor and Brecken Mozingo during the 2024 Draft certainly adds to the anticipation for the upcoming season. Ally Sentnor's nomination for U.S. Soccer’s 2023 Young Female Player of the Year Award highlights her talent and potential. Her performance in 2023, including significant goals for the U.S. Under-20 Women’s Youth National Team and her standout collegiate play, establishes her as a player to watch. Her presence on the field for the Royals this season is sure to bring excitement to fans and raise the team's competitive edge. Check out Utah Royals’ full schedule here Sunday, March 17 Matchup: Seattle Reign FC vs. Washington Spirit Where to watch: NWSL+ Back with the name and crest we all know and love, the Seattle Reign FC’s 2023 season ended in defeat as they lost in the Championship to NJ/NY Gotham FC. After an offseason of reflection, they’re ready to turn their 2023 lessons into 2024 victories. NWSL OGs Lauren Barnes and Jess Fishlock bring veteran leadership to Reign and expect a solid unit whenever those two leaders are on the pitch.
