There was a lot happening before, during, and after the Angel City and Washington Spirit match on Thursday night, but a special moment stood above the rest.

Angel City’s Savy King showed up to support her team, and she did so with the support of a new friend. While the NWSL had its own version of Thursday Night Football, the Buffalo Bills were hosting the Miami Dolphins.

King brought those two games together by rocking a signed Damar Hamlin jersey with a knee high red boot.

After King collapsed on the field earlier this season and underwent heart surgery, an unexpected bright spot was the connection made with Hamlin. The Bills safety dealt with a similar medical emergency on the field in 2023.

The two are bonded through a difficult, high profile experience and the gratitude that comes with making it to the other side.

King’s jersey, of course, had a personal note perfect for the unlikely friends. Hamlin wrote, “Survivors. Keep going!”
