On Friday, the Boston Breakers announced they had claimed forward Katie Stengel off waivers. The team waived defender Kylie Strom to free up a space on the roster.“Katie is a player that will bring more quality, experience, and competition to our roster,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said in the team’s official release. “I’m looking forward to working with her.” The Washington Spirit waived Stengel and midfielder Cameron Castleberry on June 28 in order to free up roster space for international forwards Estefanía Banini and Yanara Aedo. Stengel started three of the five games she appeared in for the Spirit during the 2017 season. According to The Bent Musket’s Stephanie Yang, Stengel will not be available for the Breakers’s July 1st game against her former club, the Washington Spirit.
