**Yokohama, Japan –** The Tokyo Olympic final had everything you wanted and more as Canada and Sweden battled it out for over two hours as the winner had to be decided by the first ever Olympic Gold Medal penalty kicks after the teams finished 1-1 in regulation. Ultimately, it was Canada who earned its first Women's Soccer Olympic Gold Medal after an intense 3-2 penalty kick win while Sweden won the Silver Medal. Both teams came into the match having dominated throughout the tournament as Canada had not trailed in a match while Sweden had only trailed for three minutes. Sweden scored the games opening goal in the 35' after Kosovare Asllani sent in a cross to the center of the box that found Stina Blackstenius whose shot went between the defenders legs and into the back of the net. The goal scored by Blackstenius makes her the top goal scorer in Olympic history for Sweden. After a VAR check, Canada was awarded a penalty kick in the 67' where Jessie Fleming calmly stepped up to the spot and her shot went the opposite direction of the diving goal keeper to the left side of the open net. It was the first penalty kick awarded in a women's Gold Medal match at the Olympics. Both teams had several chances in the second-half to find the game winning goal in regulation however could not find the back of the net and would go to extra time. This marked the first Gold Medal match to go to extra time since 2008. Sweden kept the pressure up throughout extra time as they had a few chances in the final minutes to find the game winning goal but the Canadian defense and goalkeeping from Stephanie Labbe held strong. In penalty kicks, Sweden went first where they hit the right post and bounced out. Canada then stepped up and took the 1-0 advantage. Sweden would strike on their second shot followed by a big save from their keeper to tie it 1-1, after two kicks. Sweden would take the 2-1 advantage after the third round when they converted their shot and Canada hit the cross bar with theirs. The fourth round saw saves from both goal keepers to keep Sweden up 2-1. After Sweden missed their fifth round shot Canada needed to score to push penalty kicks to sudden death and did just that. Labbe stepped up big in the first sudden death round with a diving save to set up Canada for the game winning kick as Julia Grosso stepped up and converted the penalty kick to give Canada the Gold Medal.
