The Portland Thorns were looking for a win at home in Providence Park after losing back-to-back games against the Washington Spirit and Sky Blue FC. Not only did they get the win, forwards Christine Sinclair and Hayley Raso both produced highlight-reel goals for the 16,199 fans on-hand in Portland.Christine Sinclair opened scoring in the 15th minute: [Empty Body] In a night that featured another brilliant goal from an Australian in New Jersey, Raso contributed one of her own in Providence Park for the Thorns’ second goal. [Empty Body] Sinclair finished off her brace in the 75th minute. After having a previous attempt in the 71st minute disallowed for contact with her arm, Sinclair would not be denied a second goal. [Empty Body] FC Kansas City didn’t lack for chances, but only had one shot on target in the second half. Forward Sydney Leroux had three shots (1 SOG), and Portland goalkeeper Adrianna Franch was more than up to the task on Wednesday night with four saves on the night. [Empty Body] The Thorns move into third place on the table with the win, after Sky Blue lost at home earlier tonight to the Orlando Pride. They’ll travel to Seattle on Saturday night to take on Cascadia rivals Seattle Rein FC at 10:30 p.m. ET. FC Kansas City will hope to bounce back at home this Sunday, when they host the Houston Dash on July 2.
