Claire Hutton, Current teammates find out she won the Lauren Holiday Fan Impact Challenge presented by Nationwide in wholesome video

There is nothing like celebrating a teammate’s win, and there’s been a lot of that in Kansas City lately. The Current’s latest win, however, is not a reflection of the stellar play on the field, rather it’s a reflection of Claire Hutton’s dedication to giving back.

Hutton was named the winner of the Lauren Holiday Impact Award “Fan Impact Challenge” presented by Nationwide.

Kansas City fans turned out in a big way to make sure Hutton won $10,000 for her community partner, MINDDRIVE, an after-school program that mentors students in problem solving, critical thinking, and collaboration through STEM.

Hutton and her teammates found out about her win after training when Coach Vlatko Andonovski gathered the team in a huddle.

“One announcement before we move,” he said. “Claire Hutton is this year’s Lauren Holiday…” Andonovski couldn’t even get the whole sentence out before being drowned out by cheers.

Hutton’s face lit up and she was immediately swarmed by her teammates. Lo’eau LaBonta, the Celly Queen, wasted no time in giving Hutton a celebration – rubbing her fingers together, yelling “Give her the money!”

Hutton quickly joined in and gave a quick speech.

“Thank you everybody for voting,” Hutton said over her teammates' cheers. “I’m just so happy that we got to work with MINDDRIVE and make this happen.”

The Fan Impact Challenge is just one part of the Lauren Holiday Impact Award presented by Nationwide. The overall winner will be announced at the NWSL Championship on November 22nd.

Hutton put it perfectly, saying, “The job’s not finished.”
