By Celia BalfThe North Carolina Courage announced the signing of defender Cari Roccaro on Thursday and midfielder Sarah Teegarden as a National Team Replacement player. The Courage welcome the two new additions ahead of Week 3 NWSL action against the Washington Spirit on Saturday, April 14. Roccaro joins the Courage after playing the 2017 NWSL season with the Houston Dash. With the Dash, she recorded 1,500 minutes in 18 games played. The defender was drafted fifth overall by Houston in the 2016 NWSL College Draft out of the University of Notre Dame. “I know her strengths very well having coached her at the youth level,” Courage head coach Paul Riley said in the team’s press release. “She is simple, constructive, good range of passing and a workaholic.” Additionally the Courage welcome midfielder Teegarden as a National Team Replacement player for Debinha, who is on international duty with Brazil. Teegarden has been training with the Courage since preseason and spent the last year playing in Sweden for Kopparbergs Goteborg FC. “Sarah survived a tough preseason and has really thrived over the past month,” Riley said. “She has the soccer IQ to help our team navigate through this difficult schedule of games. You can’t replace Debinha, but Sarah is capable of adding physicality, simplicity and toughness to a midfield devoid of Sam Mewis and Debinha.” The Courage are 2-0-0 after two weeks of NWSL games and will look to remain undefeated on the road against the Spirit this upcoming weekend.
