There’s just no place like home, and Lindsey Heaps is going back to where it all started.
Denver Summit FC announced on Jan. 12 that Heaps is signing with the club through 2029 and will join the team at the completion of her contract with Lyon in July.
This won’t be Heaps’s first stint in the NWSL. Before joining the OL Lyonnes, Heaps spent six seasons with the Portland Thorns during a prolific run for the club, even earning the NWSL MVP in 2018. In her tenure, Heaps was part of a NWSL Championship team (2017), won two NWSL Shields (2016, 2021), won the NWSL Challenge Cup (2021), and the NWSL Shield (2020).
Heaps joined OL Lyonnes in 2022, making 100 appearances and scoring 22 goals. In 2013, Heaps earned her first cap for the U.S. Women’s National team, and 10 years later, she was named the captain. Since 2015, Heaps has scored at least one goal for the USWNT every year, the longest current streak on the team.
With Team USA, Heaps won the 2019 World Cup, an Olympic bronze medal in 2020, and an Olympic gold medal in 2024.
Despite playing around the world, Colorado is home for Heaps. Growing up in Golden, Co., just outside of Denver, she said it means something entirely different to play the beautiful game so close to home.
"There's just so much joy and happiness knowing that there's a professional women's soccer team in Denver, and now that I get to be a part of it, it's just such a special feeling,” Heaps said to USA Today.
