Jaedyn Shaw joins Gotham FC in record intra-league trade

Gotham FC acquired Jaedyn Shaw via trade with the North Carolina Courage that set a new intra-league transfer record.

In exchange for Shaw, the Courage received $1.25 million in intra-league transfer funds. This is more than twice the previous intra-league record when Ally Sentnor was traded from the Royals to the Current for $600,000 in August.

Shaw started her NWSL career with the San Diego Wave in 2022, becoming the youngest player ever to score in their debut. She went on to score in her first three matches.

Last season, Shaw set a new league record for goals scored by a teenager with her 13th career goal. That record still stands, though Portland’s Olivia Moultrie tied it this season.

San Diego traded Shaw to North Carolina in January of this year. Though she has three goals and an assist on the season, Shaw struggled to find her groove in the Courage offense.

The move to Gotham puts Shaw in an already formidable midfield as the team fights towards the playoffs. The 2023 NWSL Champions sit in sixth place, just one point behind Orlando, the reigning champs.

Shaw could be available to suit up as soon as this weekend when Gotham travels out west to face her first and former club, the Wave.
