Portland Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan has been voted July Player of the Month by the NWSL Media Association.Horan scored three goals and chipped in one assist to lead the Thorns to an undefeated 3-0 run during the month of July. Horan did not play in the Thorns 2-1 win over Sky Blue FC to cap off the month due to her call-up to the U.S. women’s national team. The Thorns are third in the league standings with an 8-5-5 overall record and 29 points. In the two games she did play for the Thorns, Horan led her team to a 4-0 win over Utah Royals FC and then a 3-1 victory vs. the Houston Dash. She led her team with touches and passes in both games, taking 183 touches and making 129 total passes. She also took five shots on goal and created five chances over the two-game span. It is the first time Horan has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Month. Horan is tied with Red Stars forward Sam Kerr for the league-lead in goals this season with nine. Horan headed home her first goal of the month off a free kick service from Tobin Heath in the 32nd minute vs. Utah Royals FC. Against the Dash, Horan scored a brace to tie up the Golden Boot race with Kerr. Her first goal of the night came in the 16th minute where she once again headed one home. Emily Sonnett played a cross into the penalty spot and Horan beat goalkeeper Jane Campbell to head it in. It was Horan’s ninth header goal, which is the most for any NWSL player over the past three seasons. In the 31st minute, she scored her ninth goal of the season. Horan tapped it over the line after a Heath free kick created a frenzy in the box eventually bouncing off the crossbar right into Horan’s touch.
