The United States beat Chile 4-0 on Tuesday night in their final game ahead of the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship in October, the federation’s qualifying tournament for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.Carli Lloyd scored twice and Mallory Pugh and Tobin Heath also scored in the win at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California. But the game saw two injuries and both were to players whose teams are in the NWSL playoffs, just a week and a half before the start of the postseason. Courage midfielder McCall Zerboni earned her second international start, but was injured in just the first minute of the match. She landed hard on her left elbow and was replaced by Red Stars midfielder Morgan Brian. Red Stars defender Casey Short left the match with a left ankle injury in the 78th minute, but was not replaced as the U.S. was out of subs at that point. Lloyd’s goals were the 101st and 102nd of her international career, fifth all-time in U.S. history. The Sky Blue midfielder scored on her first touch of the game in the 47th minute, a diving header on a free kick from Heath. [Empty Body] Lloyd’s second goal came in the final moments of second half stoppage time. Pugh opened up the scoring in the 34th minute. After the Spirit forward was taken down in the box, Pride forward Alex Morgan had her penalty kick saved. But Heath got to the ball before it bounced over the end line, and served it back into the area, where Pugh was following the play to make it 1-0. [Empty Body] Heath scored in the 38th minute off a set piece free kick taken by Abby Dahlkemper. Stanford’s Tierna Davidson headed it on into the path of Heath to put the U.S. up 2-0. [Empty Body] Utah Royals FC defender Kelley O’Hara started and played the first 30 minutes as she works her way back from a hamstring injury. She was then replaced by the North Carolina Courage’s Crystal Dunn. Orlando Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris made the start, and was called on to make just one save in the first minute. It’s her fourth career shutout. Joining Harris as a starter in the game: O’Hara, Short, Dahlkemper, Davidson, Julie Ertz, Zerboni, Rose Lavelle, Pugh, Heath and Morgan. Brian and Dunn replaced Zerboni and O’Hara. Lloyd entered at halftime, with Pugh leaving the match. Lindsey Horan and Amy Rodriguez entered in the 61st minute, replacing Lavelle and Heath.
