**LOS ANGELES, Calif** . – Angel City FC and the Houston Dash dueled to a scoreless draw on Sunday night, with both teams producing plenty to be able to take a result but neither ultimately converting in the end. The draw leaves Angel City in 9 ^th place with 13 points from 13 games played, while Houston sit in 7 ^th place with 18 points from the same amount of games played.
The two teams traded chances almost from the jump, with Angel City forward Sydney Leroux forcing a corner kick out of an effort from inside the box after 10 minutes, and Houston forward Diana Ordóñez nearly sneaking in a shot at the far post in the 15 ^th minute only for it to ultimately roll wide. Leroux was on the counterattack with Angel City when teammate Alyssa Thompson played her in down the right side. Working her way into the box, Leroux was able to get a shot away, but that ball was deflected out for a corner kick that Angel City was ultimately incapable of capitalizing on. Then, five minutes later, the forward Ordóñez found herself in behind the defense also on the right side, but when faced up by Angel City goalkeeper DiDi Haracic, the Mexican international was unable to find the back of the net.
Two more half-chances in the first half saw Houston forward Michelle Alozie hit the outside side netting with a powerful drive from the right side of the box in the 23 ^rd minute, before Angel City forced a strong punch out of Houston goalkeeper Jane Campbell with a dangerous ball into the box in the 41 ^st minute.
A scoreless but still eventful first half then brought about a contentious, slightly elevated second half that began with a Jane Campbell save on Leroux in the 50 ^th minute and escalated as a red card challenge from defender Katie Lind in the 56 ^th minute changed the complexion of the match. Lind was struggling to catch up with a through pass for Leroux and instead became entangled with the forward as she approached the goal. Lind would end up bringing down Leroux, but an initial yellow card offense was then switched around after VAR review confirmed the denial of a goalscoring opportunity and Lind would be sent off. That left Houston with 10 players for over a half-hour.
Credit where credit is due, though, the Houston defense was able to see away really quality close chances for Angel City’s Jasmyne Spencer and Alyssa Thompson, with both players failing to find the back of the net from relatively close in in the end in both the 67 ^th and 76 ^th minutes, respectively.
The best chances of the game came near the very end of the match, though, with Houston forward Ebony Salmon hitting the post in the 81 ^st minute only for Angel City attacker Clarisse Le Bihan to do the exact same thing on the other end in 90 ^th minute as both players looked back in agony. First, Salmon showed off her jets as she raced forward in possession and into the penalty area. Her first great run of the match then saw her get a shot away that clipped the outside of the right post on its way away from goal, resulting in the missed chance. Then, on the other side, Le Bihan was on the end of missed cross approaching stoppage time when she got every bit of leather on the ball and had to have left an imprint on the near side goalpost, she hit the frame so hard.
In the end, though, despite both teams’ quality chances, the pair finished level in what was ultimately a deserved result for both sides.
