Match Recap: Woldmoe's Brace Gives Chicago 3-0 Win Over Kansas City

Chicago Red Stars vs. Kansas City

Bridgeview, Illinois – In the first match up between the two clubs at SeatGeek Stadium, it was the host Chicago Red Stars (7-7-1, 24 points) that defeated Kansas City (2-11-4, 10 points) by a final of 3-0.The Red Stars would strike first in the game after a brilliant set piece from a corner kick sent in by Mallory Pugh. Pugh sent in a cross to the middle of the box that found a charging Sarah Woldmoe who headed it into the back of the net in the 36'. Woldmoe would register a brace in the 62' after she collected a loose ball in front of the net and fired it in to give the Red Stars the 2-0 lead. Pugh once again was involved in the play as she sent in a short corner kick that ultimately led to the goal. Chicago would put the game away in the 81' with a cross that was sent in from Kealia Watt who found Katie Johnson streaking to the goal where she headed it in. The two second-half goals, marked the ninth and 10th scored by the Red Stars in the 61' or later this season. Up next for Chicago will be the first of two road games as the Red Stars will take on NJ/NY Gotham FC on Saturday, September 4th at 7:00 PM ET. Kansas City will head home for their next contest as the club will match up against the North Carolina Courage at 7:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 5th.
