**Houston, Texas** – The Kansas City Current defeated the Houston Dash by an impressive 3-0 scoreline on Wednesday night at PNC Stadium behind goals from Taylor Leach, Kristen Hamilton and Lo’eau LaBonta.
Getting the party started early, the visiting Current jumped out to the lead after just two minutes thanks to defender Taylor Leach’s goal. Earning an early corner kick, fellow defender Hailie Mace drove in a low liner from the corner that Leach met well with a right-footed volley near the top of the six-yard box. Directing her effort on goal well, Leach beat Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell for the early tally. The assist was Mace’s second in as many games.
Then, in the 27 ^th minute, Kansas City furthered their advantage as they doubled the lead through forward Kristen Hamilton. In possession near the top of the 18-yard box, attacker Elyse Bennett picked out a well-held run from Hamilton toward the back post and delivered a perfect ball to the attacker’s feet. Needing little time to convert, Hamilton scored her second in as many matches to put her side up twice.
Both the Current and the Dash had an opportunity to put one more goal in the mix before the halftime whistle, but nevertheless Kansas City carried its lead into the break.
Houston made a pair of substitutes at the break in hopes of instilling some fresh legs into the side, but the Current maintained their edge despite the introductions. Continuing to hold the Dash at bay, Kansas City would end up adding a third on the night through midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta. Played through by her teammate Bennett, LaBonta then produced a calm finish to the bottom right corner with her left foot.
Still not giving up, though, the Dash had a good look on goal through attacker Rachel Daly in the 65 ^th minute. Played in by the dynamic María Sánchez, Daly forced a left-footed effort from near the center of the penalty area to the left only for Current goalkeeper Cassie Miller to stop it.
From that point on, though, few chances were created on either side as the Current wrapped up a strong showing on the road in their 3-0 win with a clean sheet to boot.
Coincidentally, the last time Houston and Kansas City met the Current earned a similar 3-0 home win back in October 2021, which still sits as the largest scoring margin in team history. Maintaining moment, the win is also the Current’s second road win in club history following its 2-1 victory over Chicago last Friday.
