Houston Dash vs. Portland Thorns FC
Houston, Texas – The Portland Thorns (7-3-1, 22 points) came into the weekend in first-place and gained three more points as they defeated the Houston Dash (5-5-1, 16 points) by a final of 1-0 after scoring just moments into the game.
The Thorns did not waste anytime as they were able to take the 1-0 lead in the 1' (32 seconds) of action. Sophia Smith faked a shot where she then was able to get just around the defender inside the box as her shot went just past the diving goalkeeper to the left side of the net. Portland is now unbeaten in its last 11 regular-season meetings with Houston (9-0-2), the second-longest unbeaten streak the Thorns have ever had against a single opponent behind the club’s current 18-game regular-season unbeaten streak against Chicago. With the shutout, Portland has now only conceded three goals in its last eight games with six shutouts. The three goals allowed breaks the club record for fewest goals allowed in a eight-game span in a single regular season by the team. Portland will try and push their unbeaten streak to five straight games as they are next set to host Kansas City on Sunday, August 1 with the match starting at 3:00 PM ET. Houston's next contest will be on August 1 at home against NJ/NY Gotham at 7:00 PM ET.
