Kansas City (0-5-2) vs. Washington Spirit (2-1-3)

Kansas City, Kansas – In the first ever meeting between the two clubs, it was a battle until the last minute as the Washington Spirit (3-1-3, 12 points) scored in extra time to earn the 2-1 victory over Kansas City (0-6-2, two points).

The conclusion of the game also marked the end of the NWSL Super Saturday sponsored by Ally, as all 10 clubs competed today. It did not take long for Kansas City to find the back of the net as Amy Rodriguez blasted a shot to the top left corner in the 3' to take the 1-0 lead. Jessica Silva registered the assist on the play. The Spirit were able to find the equalizing goal in the 78' when Ashley Sanchez fired it into the back right of the net after collecting a pass from Trinity Rodman who was credited with the assist. In the 90'+5, Washington was able to score after Tori Huster stole the ball in the midfield and passed it up to Rodman who cut it back to her left foot and shot it into the back of the net. Washington has lost just one of its last eight regular season away games (3-1-4). Next for Kansas City will be a road trip to take on NJ/NY Gotham FC on July, 2 at 7:00 PM ET.
