NJ/NY Gotham FC (2-1-1, seven points) defeated OL Reign (1-2-1, four points) by a score of 1-0 at Red Bulla Arena on Saturday night. This match enjoyed a frenetic first half, with OL Reign seeming to dominate the first ten or so minutes. Rose Lavelle and Megan Rapinoe created a number of chances for the visitors, with the latter ringing Didi Haracic’s post only six minutes into the match. Gotham would regain control – and the lead – in the 12 th minute, with Ifeoma Onumonu heading home a Caprice Dydasco cross. The two World Cup winners continued to spearhead OL Reign’s attacking efforts, but neither side would find another goal before the break. OL Reign would be forced into the first substitution of the match, with Jess Fishlock exiting due to injury in favor of Dani Weatherholt. Both sides had clear-cut opportunities to net a goal, but both goalkeepers held strong as the final fifteen minutes of the match were within reach. Megan Rapinoe sent in a scintillating cross off a free kick in the 80 th minute, but it would not find contact from any of her teammates. The match would finish as the second half began, with Onumonu’s goal being the winner. Following the international break, NJ/NY Gotham FC will head to Orlando to face the Pride on June 20 th at 8pm ET. OL Reign will stay on the road, heading to WakeMed Soccer Park to face the Courage on June 19 th , with kick-off coming at 4pm ET.
