**Kansas City****, ****Kansas**** ****– **The Houston Dash played spoilers as they took their first win of the 2021 Challenge Cup, 3–1, against KC NWSL on Monday night. Despite KC having most of the possession, Houston took the lead on a patent left foot strike from Kristie Mewis. It looked like the Dash would take that 1-0 lead to the break, but Rachel Daly drew a penalty right before first half stoppage time and convert the chance for a 2-0 halftime lead. The second half was much of the same and Mewis found her way back to the scoresheet as Nichelle Prince made an incredible solo run and found the USWNT midfielder for the 3-0 lead. KC didn’t go down quietly as Michele Vasconcelos found her way between the Houston center backs and slotted through the hands of Jane Campbell to pull one back. It was not enough and Houston took their first win of the season. Houston (1-0–2) will round out their Challenge Cup campaign when they host Western Division Champions, Portland Thorns (3–0-0) at BBVA Stadium on May 2nd. The match starts at 7:30pm ET and can be seen on Paramount +. KC NWSL will conclude their tournament when they host OL Reign (0-1-1) on May 3rd at 8pm ET on Paramount +.
