Sky Blue FC defender/forward Margaret “Midge” Purce has been nominated for the inaugural GMA Inspiration List: Who’s Making Black History Right Now. The list was compiled by Good Morning America and ABC News after influential Black leaders, celebrities, intellectuals, entrepreneurs, athletes, and more were asked to nominate fellow Black Americans for the list. Purce received the nomination from her U.S. Women’s National Team teammate, Crystal Dunn.“Crystal has always been such a picture of strength and resilience for me,” said Purce. “She has become a true friend and it means the world to me that someone who shines such a beautiful light might see some of it reflect off of me.” Purce is the Executive Director of the Black Women’s Player Collective, a nonprofit organization focused on advancing opportunities for Black girls in sports and beyond. She also serves on the Board of Overseers for her alma mater Harvard, pushing the University to divest from fossil fuel investments and commit more resources to climate-focused initiatives. An advocate for social justice and climate change among other topics, Purce has made numerous panel appearances and continues to use her platform to ignite change. “She has inspired me in many ways, as a friend, teammate, mentor, and role model, and her passion to elevate the image and representation of Black women as athletes and leaders across all industries has made her a trailblazer and a powerful advocate,” said Dunn. Purce is joined on the list by 99 fellow Black Americans that are making Black history right now.
