Community Partner: DC Scores
When Ashley Hatch moved to the greater Washington, D.C. area early in her professional career, she dove headfirst into contributing whatever she could to her community. The Washington Spirit formed a partnership with DC SCORES, an organization that aims to promote excellence in the classroom through poetry and on the soccer pitch for young students in the DMV region, in 2020 and Hatch became an important contributor. In 2022, Hatch joined the DC SCORES’ board and expanded her work with the organization, having helped to raise tens of thousands of dollars through adult soccer clinics, social media campaigns, special events and more alongside her husband Jeff. Hatch has started her own program called Boots From Pros, through which she collects new and lightly-worn cleats from fellow professional athletes to donate to young student-athletes in need in the DMV. On top of her philanthropic efforts, Hatch consistently shows up in the greater DC community for DC SCORES’ poet-athletes. The star forward regularly attends DC SCORES events to cheer on the young people she works so closely with and has even performed poetry of her own at the organization’s annual One Night One Goal fundraising event. By making her grassroots work one of her top priorities and encouraging the participation of her teammates and colleagues, Ashley Hatch what giving back and working to uplift those in your community can and should be.
