NEW YORK (May 5, 2025) - Following a review by the NWSL Disciplinary Committee, the National Women’s Soccer League has issued an additional one-game suspension to Washington Spirit head coach Jonatan Giráldez for an incident that occurred during the club’s match against Gotham FC on April 26.
After receiving a red card, Giráldez failed to exit the field as required by the NWSL following ejection from a match. After further review, it was determined that Giráldez violated Section 12.4.1 (E), “Send-offs / Dismissals,” of the League Operations Manual.
As a result, Giráldez has been issued an additional one-match suspension, increasing his total suspension to two matches. Giráldez served his first suspension during the Spirit’s match against Angel City FC on May 2.
Giráldez will serve his final suspension during the club’s May 10 match against Chicago Stars FC.
