NWSL Opens Applications for Players’ Restitution Fund

July 9, 2025 – The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) today announced the official opening of the application process for its Players’ Restitution Fund. Created under a settlement with the Attorneys General of New York, Illinois, and Washington, D.C., the Fund provides current and former players who experienced serious misconduct while in the League an opportunity to apply for compensation.

This Fund builds on the 2022 NWSL/NWSLPA joint investigative report and the subsequent settlement announced in February 2025, which formally agreed to establish a $5 million restitution pool to address past abuse and ensure enforcement of player protections

Key Details for Applicants:

  • The Fund is administered by retired Judge Barbara S. Jones

  • An application portal is now live, and eligible players—both current and former—have through January 5, 2026 (six months) to submit claims.

  • Eligibility criteria, instructions, and required documentation are available on the NWSL website: www.nwslsoccer.com/players-restitution-fund.

  • Funds will be distributed following review and approval by Judge Jones, with oversight from the AG offices.

NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman said:

“This marks a critical step toward accountability and healing. We are deeply grateful to the brave individuals who shared their experiences and to the Attorneys General for their partnership. We stand committed to ensuring justice is delivered with care, respect, and urgency.”
