CHICAGO (October 8, 2021) -

The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that OL Reign forward Bethany Balcer has been named the Player of the Month for the month of September by the NWSL Media Association. The league’s leading scorer, Balcer notched a goal in each of her three appearances during the month of September, helping the Reign to a 3-1-0 record in the last four games. Balcer’s offensive streak began on September 1 when she scored an early goal to lift the Reign over the Houston Dash in a 1-0 victory on the road. The Hudsonville, Michigan native stretched her scoring tear to two games when she scored the equalizing goal in the 74th minute of the Reign’s 1-1 draw against Racing Louisville FC on September 4. Balcer rounded out her spectacular month of play with the opening goal in OL Reign’s 3-0 rout of the Orlando Pride on September 26. Tied for first among league goal scorers with eight tallies heading into the match, Balcer’s ninth goal of the season gave her sole position atop the stat category. Heading into the final month of the regular season, Balcer, a favorite for the league’s Golden Boot award, will look to stretch her scoring streak to four games when the Reign take on the Chicago Red Stars in a 7 p.m. ET contest at home on October 10. OL Reign midfielder Sofia Huerta finished second in voting after notching a pair of game-winning assists, while Chicago Red Stars midfielder Morgan Gautrat finished third after appearing in every minute of play throughout September. The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
