What do you get a professional soccer player for her 20th birthday? A new NWSL record might be just the thing.
It seems to be the perfect gift for Olivia Moultrie.
Moultrie scored her 14th career regular season goal on Sunday against the Chicago Stars, and in the process, set a new league record for regular season goals scored by a teenager. The record was previously held by the newest member of Gotham FC, Jaedyn Shaw.
If Moultrie was going to break the record, it had to be this weekend. She turns 20 years old on September 17, so she got in right under the wire.

Based on her midgame interview, Moultrie wasn’t too hung up tracking possible records.
“Honestly, I forgot until you just told me,” Moultrie said, laughing. “All I was thinking about was helping my team win the game, but I’m happy about that too.”
The goal came on a free kick just outside the box. With a confident strike, Moultrie floated the ball into the left corner of the net.
“I’ve watched Messi become too good at them, so I decided I want to add that to my arsenal,” Moultrie said. “I’ve been working on them a lot. Picked out a spot and here we are.”
Moultrie made her professional soccer debut at just 15 years old. In her five years, she’s only grown more confident. Last season, she scored a career-high of five goals. So far in 2025, she’s already scored four and earned an assist and has helped the Thorns overcome a shaky start to the season to climb to fourth in the standings, firmly in playoff positioning. Her consistency has been essential for a Thorns squad navigating a new era after the retirement of dependable goal scorer and veteran Christine Sinclair and the absence of forward Sophia Wilson on maternity leave.
As Portland pushes for a league-record fourth NWSL Championship, Moultrie remains one of their most vital players.
Catch the newly minted 20-year-old Moultrie with the Thorns as they take on the San Diego Wave in Portland, next Saturday, September 20th at 10PM ET on ION.
