The Game

  • Following the international break and a scoreless Week 11 draw with Sky Blue, the Washington Spirit will take on the Seattle Reign at home this weekend. The Reign return to league action since their own scoreless draw in a 0-0 result with the Orlando Pride before the FIFA break on June 3.

  • The second-place Reign and eighth-place Spirit both enter this game in the midst of three-game winless streaks. This is the first meeting between the teams since Week 1 of this season, when the Reign edged out the Spirit, 2-1.

  • Washington Spirit forward Mallory Pugh will be out for 8-10 weeks after suffering a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) sprain in her right knee during the Spirit’s May 27th match-up with the Houston Dash. Pugh’s injury and projected recovery time was confirmed this week by the Spirit and the U.S. women’s national team.

  • Seattle Reign FC has acquired Adriana Leon from Sky Blue FC, it was announced on Tuesday. Leon joins the Seattle roster after appearing in two games for Sky Blue this season, and Sky Blue will get the Reign’s fourth-round pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft as a result of the trade.

  • In the Washington Spirit defense, Estelle Johnson is tied for the league lead in clearances (61) and tied with teammate Whitney Church for the Spirit lead in blocks (10). Church has played every minute of the Spirit’s season thus far (1,080 minutes).

  • Seattle Reign forward Megan Rapinoe is currently tied for second in the league in scoring, with five goals on the season. She has scored three times in the Reign’s last five games.

  • Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe ****currently leads the league in saves, with 57 on the year. She has also recorded three clean sheets this season.

  • Seattle Reign midfielder Rumi Utsugi is currently tied for third in the league in tackles won (26).

  • Washington Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan is fourth in the league in successful passes (432) and tied third in the league for passes into the final third (97). She has started every game (12 starts) and played every minute (1,080 minutes) this season.

  • Seattle Reign teammates Nahomi Kawasumi and Steph Catley each have two assists this season. Kawasumi also leads the Reign in successful crosses/corners (9) and chances created (14), and Catley recently earned a place in the May Team of the Month on defense.

  • Washington Spirit forwards Ashley Hatch and Francisca Ordega have scored three goals each this season, tying them along with eight other players, for fourth place in the league in scoring. Hatch also leads the Spirit in duels won (69) and Ordega leads the team in tackles won (24).

  • Defender Lauren Barnes leads the Seattle Reign in clearances (32) and is second in successful passes (299) to teammate Allie Long (423). Long has scored two goals this season and leads the Reign in blocks (7), duels won (91), and minutes played this season (810).
